Canada’s Lynx Air adds Boston, San Francisco to growing route map

Canadian budget carrier Lynx Air has announced its expansion into the United States with the addition of Boston and San Francisco to its list of destinations. The airline, which commenced operations in April 2022, will fly to both cities from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

Vijay Bathija, Lynx’s chief commercial officer, expressed his excitement about the expansion, stating that it is a significant milestone for the airline. Lynx aims to continuously expand its network and provide more options for travelers.

Flights from Toronto to Boston will commence on March 28, with a schedule of four flights per week. The frequency will increase to six flights per week from April 22, providing daily service except on Saturdays. On the other hand, flights from Toronto to San Francisco will begin on May 3 with four flights per week. Starting from June 11, the route will have daily service.

Lynx operates under an ultra-low-cost model, similar to popular U.S. carriers Allegiant, Frontier, and Spirit. The airline primarily targets Canadian travelers who wish to visit the United States. However, American travelers flying to Canada will also benefit from the new service. By offering affordable fares, Lynx aims to encourage more Canadians to explore their favorite destinations.

Competition is expected on both routes. Air Canada already offers nonstop flights between Boston and Toronto Pearson, while Porter Airlines, another Canadian competitor, flies from Boston to Toronto-Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ). In San Francisco, Lynx will face competition from Air Canada, Porter, and United Airlines on its service to Toronto Pearson.

With the addition of Boston and San Francisco, Lynx will now serve a total of eight U.S. destinations, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Phoenix, Tampa, and Fort Myers, Florida. The airline’s expansion demonstrates its commitment to providing affordable travel options for both Canadian and American travelers.

In conclusion, Lynx Air’s expansion into Boston and San Francisco is an exciting development for the Canadian budget carrier. By offering affordable fares and expanding its network, Lynx aims to provide more options for travelers and inspire Canadians to explore their favorite destinations. With competition from established carriers, Lynx will need to differentiate itself through its ultra-low-cost model and excellent service to attract passengers.
