Travelers headed to South Korea now have a new and unique option for lounge access at Incheon International Airport in Seoul. The airport just opened the first-ever Oneworld Alliance branded lounge, providing a luxurious and exclusive space for first, business, and high-level elite status members of the global alliance.
The Oneworld Lounge is located in Terminal 1 of Incheon Airport, within short walking distance of all gates used by the seven Oneworld airlines that fly in and out of the airport. This includes American Airlines, making it a convenient option for travelers flying with this carrier.
This new lounge is a significant development for Oneworld, as it is the first time the alliance has operated its own branded lounge. In comparison, other global alliance competitors, such as Star Alliance, have already opened their own branded lounges at airports around the world. For example, Star Alliance recently opened a 14,000 square-foot lounge at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport in France.
Gerhard Girkinger, the vice president for customer experience, delivery, and membership of Oneworld Alliance, expressed pride in the opening of the Oneworld Lounge, stating that it is a significant milestone for the alliance and its member airlines’ customers.
The lounge itself spans nearly 6,000 square feet and is located on the fourth floor of Terminal 1 near Gate 28. It is conveniently situated within a 10-minute walk from all Oneworld gates. This ensures that travelers can easily access the lounge regardless of their departure gate.
Access to the Oneworld Lounge is open to business class and first class passengers flying with Oneworld carriers at Incheon Airport. This includes seven airlines: American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Malaysian Airlines, Qantas, Qatar, and Sri Lankan Airlines. Additionally, Oneworld Emerald or Sapphire elite status members can also enjoy access to the lounge. For American Airlines’ AAdvantage loyalty program members, this translates to Platinum status and above. However, it is important to note that an Admirals Club membership, whether paid or earned through a credit card, does not guarantee access to the lounge unless the traveler has the necessary Oneworld status or a first or business-class ticket.
The Oneworld Lounge offers seating for up to 148 customers, with a combination of high-top tables and chairs for relaxation. The design of the lounge combines vibrant and calming elements, with a subtle nod to South Korean culture. The lounge features plenty of natural light, ideal for plane spotting, and is complemented by navy and bright red furniture, glass art, and orange lanterns. The lounge is divided into distinct zones, each with a different aesthetic, allowing customers to choose an area that suits their mood and needs. Facilities include a full bar, dining options, and private shower facilities.
The opening of the Oneworld Lounge in Seoul is significant for Oneworld flyers at Incheon Airport. Previously, access to a lounge was only available to passengers of a few Oneworld carriers through non-alliance partnerships. It remains to be seen if and where future Oneworld Lounges might be opened in the future, but this new lounge sets a precedent for providing an elevated travel experience for Oneworld passengers.
