How to renew Global Entry membership

Like all Trusted Traveler Programs run by the U.S. government, Global Entry is valid for five years and must be renewed for continued use. Global Entry is a program facilitated by the U.S. Customs and Border program that allows preapproved, low-risk travelers to expedite their arrival into the U.S. through automatic kiosks at various airports. It also includes a five-year membership to TSA PreCheck, which allows travelers to expedite their way through airport security at select U.S. airports without removing certain items.

Renewing your Global Entry membership is a simple process that can be done up to one year before the expiration date. There is no penalty for renewing early, and as long as you submit a renewal application before your membership expires, you can continue using Global Entry for up to 24 months after the expiration date while your renewal is being processed. Once your renewal is approved, a five-year period is added to your current membership period.

While most people renewing their membership are not required to interview again, there is no guarantee. It is recommended to set a calendar reminder to start the renewal process one year from your expiration date to allow time for any potential interviews.

To renew your Global Entry membership, you will need the following documents and information:

1. U.S. passport
2. Driver’s license
3. Work history, including address and phone number for each place of employment since you first enrolled as a Trusted Traveler member
4. List of countries you have traveled to since you first enrolled
5. Vehicle make, model, year, color, VIN, and license plate if you plan to drive across the U.S. border

The renewal process should take about 45 minutes to complete, but it may be faster if you haven’t had any significant changes since your original application.

To start the renewal process, log onto the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) website and select “manage membership.” Click on the box for Global Entry to renew and respond “yes” to certify your application. Proceed with paying the application fees. Throughout the process, you will be asked to acknowledge that a background check may be conducted, and an interview may be required. You will also need to confirm your personal information and answer a series of questions. After submitting your application, monitor your account for any status changes.

Another option for completing the Global Entry enrollment interview is through Enrollment on Arrival. This allows conditionally approved applicants to complete the interview as part of the immigration process at the airport upon returning to the U.S. from abroad. This program is available at more than 60 airports worldwide. To enroll upon arrival, you will need your U.S. passport and any other required proof-of-residency documents.

It is also worth noting that many credit cards offer reimbursement for Global Entry application fees, up to $100 every four years. If you start the renewal process a few months in advance, you can still apply for a credit card that offers this benefit and receive the reimbursement before submitting your payment.

In conclusion, renewing your Global Entry membership is a straightforward process that can be done online. It is recommended to start the renewal process one year before your expiration date to allow for any potential interviews. By renewing your Global Entry membership, you can continue to enjoy the benefits of expedited travel and security clearance when entering the U.S.
