How to sign up for Clear, the expedited security program

What is Clear, and how does it work?

Clear is an expedited security program that allows travelers to bypass the traditional two-step Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security process at domestic airports. By completing the identity verification step through biometric authentication, Clear users can skip the long security lines and move directly to the screening area.

To use Clear, travelers must first enroll in the program. The enrollment process requires meeting certain qualifications, including being a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident, being at least 18 years old, and having one of the approved forms of photo identification such as a U.S. driver’s license, passport, or military ID.

Once enrolled, Clear members can log in to their account on Clear’s website and add up to three family members for an additional fee. Travelers under 18 can also use the Clear line for free if accompanied by a Clear member.

To sign up for Clear, individuals can start the enrollment process online and finish it at a Clear location, or complete the entire process in person at a Clear location. Either way, the final enrollment steps must be completed in person at a Clear location. During this process, individuals will be asked to verify their identity, provide their biometrics (such as fingerprints or iris scans), and show a valid photo ID. There is also an enrollment fee of $189.

Clear is currently available at 54 airports across the United States, as well as at stadiums and other large venues. Once a Clear member has successfully verified their identity at a Clear kiosk, a Clear representative will accompany them to the TSA security screening line, either the TSA PreCheck line or the standard TSA line.

Clear offers several ways for users to save on their membership. New users can receive a free two-month trial of Clear through a referral link. Clear members can also refer friends for two free months. Additionally, some credit cards offer a free Clear membership as a perk. Certain United Airlines and Delta Air Lines credit cardholders, along with their frequent flyers and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members, can get Clear at a discounted rate or even for free, depending on their elite status.

Clear can save travelers time and frustration when passing through security, not only at airports but also at other large venues throughout the U.S. The sign-up process is simple, and using the right credit card can even make it free. Overall, Clear offers a convenient and efficient way for travelers to expedite the security process and make their travel experience more streamlined.
