Is the Hilton Aspire Amex card worth the annual fee?

Despite its hefty $550 annual fee, the Hilton Aspire Amex offers a range of benefits that make it worth paying for Hilton loyalists. One of the most valuable benefits is the Hilton Honors Diamond status, which earns bonus points on hotel stays, free breakfast, room upgrades, and executive lounge access.

The current welcome offer for the Hilton Aspire Amex is 180,000 Hilton Honors bonus points after spending $6,000 within the first six months of card membership. This offer is worth $1,080 according to TPG’s valuation of Hilton Honors points.

The earning rates on the Hilton Aspire Amex are impressive, especially for Hilton loyalists. Cardmembers earn 14 points per dollar on purchases for Hilton portfolio hotel stays, 7 points per dollar on flights booked directly with an airline or through AmexTravel.com, car rentals booked with specific car rental companies, and purchases at U.S. restaurants. All other purchases earn 3 points per dollar spent.

The most significant benefit of the Hilton Aspire Amex is the complimentary Diamond status with Hilton. This elite status offers a 100% bonus on all Hilton stays, resulting in an extra 10 points per dollar. Diamond elite members also receive complimentary room upgrades, breakfast or food and beverage credits, and executive lounge access. TPG values Hilton Diamond status at nearly $3,000.

Cardmembers also receive up to $400 in statement credits each calendar year for eligible purchases at eligible Hilton resorts, as well as up to $200 in annual airline purchase statement credits and up to $100 Hilton property credit for booking at least a two-night paid stay at select properties. The Aspire card also provides a statement credit of up to $189 a year towards a Clear Plus membership, which offers expedited security at U.S. airports.

Other benefits of the Hilton Aspire Amex include up to three free night awards each year, complimentary National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive status, travel protections, and cellphone protection.

Overall, the Hilton Aspire Amex is worth considering for Hilton loyalists who frequently stay at Hilton portfolio properties. The elite-status benefits, high earning rate with Hilton, and useful statement credits make it a valuable card. However, for occasional Hilton stays, a lower annual fee Hilton credit card or a general travel rewards credit card may be a better fit.
