On this blog and many others, we’ve often debated whether using cents per point is a valid method to value your points. However, in absence of a better alternative, we use the CPP method as a simple way to see how much value we were able to extract from our most recent points redemption.
When it comes to hotel points, Hilton Honors and World of Hyatt points continue to remain two of my favorite points currencies.
Hyatt Points Redemption: Hyatt Centric Juhu Mumbai
I was looking to book a one night stay and was looking for a place close to Mumbai airport. Sure, there were a few fancy properties around. The JW Marriott Juhu, which is right across the street from Hyatt Centric, is a fantastic property. However, I was looking for something functional for a short stay. The Hyatt Centric Juhu ticked that box perfectly.
A quick glance of the World of Hyatt showed that this was a Category 1 property, which meant that the points per night would range between 3,500-6,500. The pricing for my stay fell into the Standard category.
While using points, the hotel was only showing availability for a room with two twin beds. I called the hotel to request a king bed instead. After booking my stay at the Hyatt Centric Juhu, Mumbai, I redeemed a total of 5,000 World of Hyatt points.
Since it was late January and still ‘peak’ travel season in most parts of India, the room rate per night was INR 17,234 or $208. Given that I only paid 5,000 points for my stay, it yielded me a sweet value of 4.06 cents per point.

Also, upon check-in, the hotel staff informed that the following was included for stays booked with points:
1. High tea for registered guests every day between 4-5 PM, serving an assortment of tea, coffee, local snacks.
2. Complimentary breakfast.
Unlike my top tier Diamond status with Hilton, I only have mid-level Explorist status. So the complimentary breakfast was great to have.
The Pundit’s Mantra
Overall, the hotel was quite functional and built well to cater to guests who are looking for a quick stay and are in the city for business or to hop to the airport nearby. I’d not recommend the property if you’re looking for an elaborate vacation with family. For that, I’d highly recommend the JW Marriott Juhu across the street, which is one of my favorite hotels in the city.
One of my favorite things about this property was the terrace area. They’d set up a nice pool and bar up there. Since the property was close to the airport, I simply chose to pick up a drink by the pool and relaxed as planes kept whizzing over my head every few minutes as they elegantly ventured into the gorgeous Mumbai sunset.
