Startup BermudAir unveils 2 new routes, adding Baltimore and Orlando

Startup BermudAir is expanding its operations with the addition of two new destinations in the United States. The airline will now offer flights between Bermuda and Baltimore and Orlando, with service beginning in March.

BermudAir will operate three flights per week between Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Bermuda, starting on March 18. Flights from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Bermuda will begin a week later, on March 26.

The carrier will utilize two Embraer E175 jets, each with 66 seats. The planes will feature 14 business class seats and 52 economy class seats. Introductory fares for these new routes start at $99 one-way to Bermuda, and $199 one-way from Bermuda. Tickets are already available for purchase.

With the addition of Baltimore and Orlando, BermudAir now serves Bermuda from five U.S. destinations. The other three cities are Boston, Fort Lauderdale, and Westchester County (located north of New York City).

BWI and MCO were chosen as new destinations to complement BermudAir’s existing routes and increase connectivity. The airline’s CEO and founder, Adam Scott, stated that these two airports provide additional gateways in the crucial Northeast Corridor and enhance access to Florida.

BermudAir began operations in August, initially offering flights to Boston Logan International Airport and Westchester County Airport. Flights to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport were added a month later. The airline initially planned to operate an all-business class model, with only 44 seats on its E175 jets. However, after receiving feedback and demand from customers, BermudAir switched to a mixed business and economy class layout, offering a total of 66 seats.

The airline still plans to introduce its “Aisle Class” business-class product, where each premium seat will have both an aisle and a window. However, supply chain delays have pushed back the launch of this product to next year.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, BermudAir has seen positive progress and performance on its existing routes. The airline is one of several startup carriers that have emerged during this time, taking advantage of lowered barriers to entry and increased availability of aircraft and resources.

On the new routes to BWI and MCO, BermudAir currently faces no competition, according to airline data provider Cirium. However, American Airlines does operate flights between Washington Reagan National and Bermuda during the summer season.

In conclusion, BermudAir’s expansion to Baltimore and Orlando demonstrates the airline’s commitment to providing convenient and affordable travel options to Bermuda. With the addition of these routes, the airline continues to strengthen its presence in the U.S. market and enhance connectivity for travelers.
