Universal reveals name and details of new kid-friendly theme park in Texas

Universal Kids Resort: A New Addition to Universal’s Growing Theme Park Empire

Universal theme parks around the world are experiencing a period of unprecedented growth. With the recent opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood and the announcement of the upcoming Epic Universe park in Florida, it seemed like Universal would have its hands full. However, the company has just revealed plans to build another new park in Frisco, Texas, called Universal Kids Resort.

Designed specifically for children aged 3 to 9 and their families, Universal Kids Resort aims to inspire creativity, imagination, and play. According to Molly Murphy, president of Universal Creative, the resort will allow kids and families to be physically immersed in their favorite stories and characters. The park will feature family-friendly attractions, interactive shows, unique merchandise, food and beverage venues, and character meet-and-greets.

Universal has also unveiled concept art for the park, showcasing a whimsical design with lush gardens, multiple play areas, a splash pad, and a collection of land- and water-based attractions. While concept art does not necessarily depict the final layout of the park, it gives us an idea of what to expect.

Unlike Universal’s resorts in Florida and California, Universal Kids Resort will have a smaller footprint, spanning just under 100 acres. This smaller size is intentional, catering to families with young children who may not want to spend the entire day at the park. The proximity to the hotel will allow families to take breaks, have naps, and enjoy some swimming before heading back to the park.

The decision to build Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, is strategic. Situated between Universal’s Florida and California parks, the Texas location ensures that families from both coasts have easy access to the park. Page Thompson, president of new ventures for Universal Parks & Resorts, expressed excitement about partnering with the city of Frisco and Mayor Jeff Cheney to bring this new concept to life.

This move by Universal demonstrates the company’s focus on attracting families with younger children to its parks. While Universal’s other parks are known for their epic coasters and thrill rides, Universal Kids Resort will provide a more family-friendly experience. By catering to this demographic, Universal aims to increase attendance and visit duration at its existing parks.

In addition to Universal Kids Resort, the company has also announced a year-round horror attraction coming to Las Vegas. These bold moves by Universal indicate their commitment to expanding and innovating within the theme park industry.

As of now, an opening date and further details about Universal Kids Resort have not been revealed. However, it is clear that Universal’s movie-based resorts are positioned to become superstars in the world of theme parks. With new lands, hotels, attractions, and entire parks on the horizon, Universal is set to continue its impressive growth and provide unforgettable experiences for guests of all ages.
